Palm Trees In The Snow: Still Surviving A Few Months Later

At the end of last year, St. George was slammed with an out-of-charater snow storm that was thought to have killed off the expensive palm trees and other plants. KUTV's Ladd Egan reported that between 60-80% of the trees would be lost.
My friend Sloan Harlin was interviewed by Egan: KUTV: Cold Weather Kills Palm Trees In St. George  I asked Sloan a couple of follow-up questions about the consensus of the foliage, and he said:

This certainly is the worst plant damage we have seen in some time, but I don't think as much  stuff died as many people think. Most of the plants are just severely damaged. They will need all of the damaged limbs pruned off, but [they] will regrow. But of course, there are some that are totally dead. We haven't seen temperatures that low for… 80 years or so.

I found that quite a few palm trees looked pretty shabby, but there were also signs of a will to thrive:

Portraits

 Experience as the photographer:
From:

I was having issues with getting the fancy camera to work, but luckily, it was an easy fix. I also felt very nervous photographing someone I didn't know very well. Michael was very patient and an excellent model/ camera tech. I had the most fun photographing in the studio. My favorite photos of Michael are the split-shadow lighting in the studio and the outdoor Rembrandt-style.

   Experience as the model:

I was pretty apprehensive about being the model. Emily and Michael were really fun to work with and be around, so I noticed that  my goofy personality started to show through. After I saw the photos that were taken, I was really impressed with how talented everyone was. In the past, I have never really had any good experiences with having my picture taken, even from professionals. My favorite part of this assignment was getting to know everyone, and learning a little bit more about my camera and the art of photography.
